I didn't start writing about the Gwendolyn Reading Method to convince the world that my way of reading is the way everyone should read or would even want to read. I'm my own set of odd idiosyncrasies - a target audience of one. You are as well. What works for me may very well not work for you. I started writing about my eccentric way of reading because the concept of putting any sort of structure around reading seemed to be such a novel idea. To most people, reading is just... reading. Why? Why is putting structure around reading such a foreign concept to us? We put structure around other hobbies easily enough. No one thinks twice about someone who runs marathons as a hobby training and having little traditions that help them achieve their goals.

Ugh, you might say, reading is about having fun. Structure sounds like a killjoy. Structure isn't about setting rules and following them no matter what. Structure is about figuring yourself out, figuring out what brings you the greatest joy and then doing THAT. If THAT stops helping you achieve joy, then, like a runner who no longer needs a knee brace, STOP USING IT and shift over to what's bringing you joy NOW.
That's another thing. Structure doesn't have to be rigid. You are a constantly evolving, changing person.  What brings you joy right now, probably won't in the future. In fact, I guarantee it won't, because humans are constantly curious beings who need new experiences on a regular basis. So, when your method stops being quite as effective as it used to be, it's not that your method has FAILED, it's just time for your method to change and evolve with you.

I hope I've sparked something inside you to start thinking if there are ways you can fall in love with reading all over again. And if you do decide to start experimenting with your own method, I'd love to hear about what you try: what works, what fails miserably. I'm reading the only way that feels real and natural and effective to me, so it's hard for me to even visualize how your method will be different. But it WILL BE and I'm on-the-edge-of-my-seat curious to find out just how different it can be!
